Dr. Max Y. C. Lo is an associate professor of Leisure Industry Management. His primary expertise lies in second language acquisition, tourism studies, and cross-cultural studies. His research seeks to understand cultural and linguistic factors in leisure industry in a global context. In addition, he has cooperated with local community to develop local tourism resources and community tourism strategic plan. Professor Lo received his doctoral degrees in Tourism Development from Maejo University, Thailand and Bilingual Education from Texas A&M University – Kingsville, U.S.A. He holds a M. Ed. in Curriculum Design and Instruction from William Woods University, U.S.A. and completed his undergraduate studies at Providence University, Taiwan, where he earned a B.A. in English Language, Literature, and Linguistics.

You think you know Taiwan? 台灣人就一定了解台灣? 文化的影響力無遠弗屆，從日常生活中的人際溝通、網路科技的運用、行銷、廣告、跨境電商、觀感等等，文化力皆扮演著關鍵腳色。經過幾年隨波逐流的全球化(Globalization)，大家意識到扎實的全球化的前提必須要有穩固的在地化 Localize before globalize 也就是近年的取代Globalization的全球在地化(Glocalization)潮流。而透過這門課深度探討台灣人習以為常的日常生活，了解背後的文化思維，將文化分析理論應用於生活實境、案例與情境等，課程參與者可以認知到台灣日常生活文化的認知對於台灣社會與產業各層面的全球化是有著實質影響力的。
課程目標
這門課的目標旨在喚起台灣日常生活文化認知與全球在地化(Glocalization)潮流下的重要性，因為輕忽了台灣的文化力會影響整體社會及產業全球在地化的基礎。而透過課程探討台灣的日常文化現象，參與者可以認知到台灣文化力與其對社會與產業的影響力。

課程特色
課程希望透過類似Podcast、網紅等當今時下的影片設計與觀賞模式達到教育娛樂性(Edutainment)。課程的兩位老師(台籍與加拿大籍)結合理論與實務的設計出討論議題且透過全英文淺顯易懂的磨課師(MOOCS)的方式針對台灣日常生活文化意象並邀請議題相關來賓到課程(節目)共同討論與現身說法。
課程進度
Week 1: Stuck in My Head - An episode about the song we all know and hear everyday. Taiwan’s unique garbage disposal service and the people who make it work.
Week 2: Taiwan Bubblegum - An episode about all aspects of the betel nut production, selling and consumption in Taiwan.
Week 3: Hanging by a Thread - Puppet shows for the gods. Who makes them? Who pulls the strings? Who watches them?
Week 4: Door to Door - An episode about the Taiwan mail service motorcycle delivery people. A dying art.
Week 5: Dancing in the Dark - An episode about the thousands of people dancing in the parks at night.
Note. The topic remains tentative, the instructor will make changes as he finds fit.
